River Terrace Church

Some questions we’ve asked and answered about

TheCommon.org at River Terrace Church

Who is a part of TheCommon.org?

While many churches and community agencies use the software at TheCommon.org, each community has its own unique network. In other words, we have a distinctly River Terrace version of TheCommon.org.  You only see needs emerging from River Terrace or from a local agency the deacons have approved.

Who can access TheCommon.org?

The only people who can access the River Terrace Version of TheCommon.org are people who have been approved by the deacons, Faith-in-Action and the church staff.  Others can benefit from TheCommon.org if you post a need on their behalf, but even that arrangement is supervised by a facilitator (deacon, staff or Faith-in-Action).

What if I don’t have access to a computer?

If you have a need, simply ask someone who is a part of the common.org to post that need on your behalf. If you have abilities, you can use a computer that is designated for use at River Terrace Church.

Where do needs come from?

Needs can come from a few places. First, needs can come from you, as a part of the River Terrace Church version of TheCommon.org.  Second, needs can come from your neighbors or co-workers or friends or family in Mid-Michigan. Third, needs can come from partner agencies, like Sparrow’s Nest, Christian Services and Habitat for Humanity.

What is the marketplace?

The marketplace is a new feature on TheCommon.org that allows people to post items they are in need of and items they are willing to give away. If you’re familiar with craigslist.com, you’ll find a lot of similarities, except that the community is limited only to River Terrace.
